Drinking in Bali

Every culture has its way of drinking, there are even rules for drinking, Balinese also has a mode in drinking water, especially for traditional liquors and Tuak-Arak. Tuak is a sweet wine made from the flowers of the palm coir, while Arak is strong liquor distilled from tuak. Drinking liquor Balinese is the prerogative of men. In the old days there were no women or drink tuak arak, but over time women begin to drink, but never tuak arak (too strong for women) is not discrimination, I think Balinese Arak is dangerous to the uterus. Women tend to drink tuak secretly or in house compound not in public (warung posts at the road side, or Balai banja / sub village public hall) as men.
Drinking for Balinese normally used for recreational purposes. We drink to strengthen the friendship between friends and make friends with strangers. There's an old saying among teenagers, who runs "of cigarettes and liquors are tools for making friends. It is common for Balinese to invite a stranger to join a" circle of drink. "(Usually sit in a circle while drinking). Seldom us drink to relieve stress or drinks to Borracho (drink for the sake of getting drunk) drinking for recreational purposes can be very creative way to drink. Balinese often sing while drinking, this custom originated tradition genjek. Genjek is a traditional form of singing in which a group of men (usually 6 to 12) sitting in a circle, some of them singing, while the rest of them imitating the sound of musical instruments. The songs are mainly about love and everyday life. Genjek usually performed at the wedding ceremony. The genjek performers have to be drunk half before starting the show. It is believed that the quality of the song depends on the level of intoxication of the performers. High level of intoxication through a song of high quality. In Balinese drinking have a certain code of conduct such as the offer of a small amount of liquor must be made before starting to drink Balinese. Normally, for a small amount of drink in the ground or soil in order to pacify bhutan kala (negative force of nature) so that the activity drinking does not disturb. The way of drinking tuak is slightly different with arak. In drinking tuak each participant has his own Kele (a cup made of bamboo) and private uses. While in drink arak we use only a small glass for all participants, who in turn drink. An exception is made when someone from the upper caste (Brahmana, Ksatrya, or Weysya) join the circle, a bid for a private use of glass to be made. A private supply of glass is a sign of respect for him. We welcome you in the circle if the private use of glass or not. An offer to savor a glass of arak to spend is often stranger. If you want it, do not hesitate to take as soon as it is offered. Say thank you if you do not want to join the circle. If you want to join the circle, asking for a drink after the offering. If you do not want the flavor that offers liquor, refuse with good reason. Medical or religious ban is the best excuse. In the eastern part of Bali, tuak is a substitute for water. A supply of drinking water tuak is part of a courtesy there. It is considered to be impolite to turn down the offer without a proper apology and a good reason. Once again, medical or religious ban is an excuse to listen preferred by the host. However, acceptance of the offer will be a perfect way to interact with the community.

Paintings bali

Bali painting was subject to outside influences, particularly the form of Western painting, during the late 1920 in Ubud, Gianyar, Bali. While some foreign influences in traditional painting already in use since the late 19 century, major changes took place due to the influence of Walter Spies (German, 1895-1942), emphasized that light, shade, depth and perspective in their works. Rudolf Bonnet (Dutch, 1895-1978), moreover, focused on the anatomy and the portrait. Both came to Bali in late 1920 and built their studies in Ubud with the assistance of local prince Cokorda Gede Agung Sukawati (1910-1978), a pattern of Balinese art. At that time, Ubud was not known as a center for the visual arts, although there was a style of WAYANG / puppet painting.

It was natural Bali artist to notice the talent of Spies and Bonnet, which in turn, urged some of the local painters Bali for the wider use of items and encouraged them to paint more freely. Although very few Balinese artists directly taught these new aesthetic concepts, other artists Bali simply copied what they saw and how it was a tradition in the culture of Bali. Most of them turned to issues already known to them in traditional astrological charts and almanacs earthquake, using scenes agricultural Bali as ideas for the new genre of painting style. These are compositions free from religious or ceremonial value.

While the new paintings were innovative, beautiful lines and the strength of style and approach are clear connections to the Balinese culture, because the artists do not totally abandon their traditional methods of painting. They used tempera and watercolor, and later oil and acrylic paints became popular. Some common themes were farmers in rice fields, women to markets, religious ceremonies, Bali and musicians and dancers. The painting traditional Bali artists also found a market for their works supply demand Bali tourist souvenirs.

Painter Bali
Poleng Ida Bagus Made (1915 ...., Tebesaya, Gianyar, Bali), better known as Ida Bagus Made, first learned painting from his father, Ida Bagus Made Kembeng (1897-1952), an artist Pitamaha association Members who won the Argent Certificate of Merit and Silver Medal at the International Exposition of 1937 in Paris, France. Poleng also was a member of Pitamaha. Some of his works based on the figures in the drawings of Balinese magic. Under the influence of Rudolf Bonnet (Dutch, 1895-1978), focused instead on scenes from everyday life with more naturalistic looking figures and foliage in soft colors.

Government Threatens to Close Illegal Bali Villas

(4/11/2008) Nusa Bali reports that the "cleansing" of hundreds of villas operating as unlicensed business continues apace, with about 6 villas receive visits from my department of multiple inspection teams every workday.

With the latest deadline of August 29, 2008 for completion of permits looms ahead, the newspaper reports that hundreds of villages will soon face closure.

The Head of the Secretariat of Tourism of the Badung Regency, Drs. I Subawa, told Nusa Bali who has done everything in its power to promote the town of registration as his team continues to facilitate the villa registration process.

Unfortunately, according to Subawa, for about 300 villas now unlicensed in office of the books, only 58 meet the basic requirements of licensing with only 35 actually having obtained the necessary permits.

Not included in the Tourism Survey are another 182 villas used as private residences or vacant, thus falling outside the licensing regime.

Tourism officials acknowledge they face problems in the process of licensing and registration. The number of villages involved and its location makes the government team only able to inspect six villas in a given time, and the owners are often absent when the team reaches the floor.

Deadline Ahead

Subawa told the press that those who ignore the registration process and has not registered his villa trading before August 29 is the deadline face very real possibility that your house is shut down.

Bali Tourism Calls for Open Skies to Bali

(4/12/2008) Bisnis Bali reports that the Chairman of the Bali Tourism Board (BTB), Ida Bagus Nurjaya has called on the government to "open the taps wide" and allow access to foreign airlines Bali if current plans to increase the size of the island in the tourism sector are to succeed.

According to Nurjaya, the continuation of financial problems and security problems faced by Garuda Indonesia, and the haphazard development of domestic aviation sector are among the main factors stunting the growth of national tourism .

The solution at hand, according to the head of CEL is to liberalize access to Bali for foreign airlines. He also cited the high demand for certain markets - such as China, Taiwan, South Korea and Russia, where demand often exceeds the capacity of seats in Bali.
